Marketing Techniques

I just want to say that although I’ll be taking days off from work, I won’t be taking days off from writing or producing content.  I may substitute writing for video recordings or major photo shoots, but the content will come out every day.  Why?  I am trying to develop the habit of writing every day.  But as I am learning, I discovered that other forms of content are just as important.  As I mentioned on the blog Don’t Break the Chain, I am trying to form a habit of creating art every day. I believe I can do this systematically if I remain consistent for the first few months.  Then, I’m hoping it will be second nature. In addition, to the writing and the pictures, I must spend double the time marketing my content.  I believe this where most business owners fail.  They don’t spend enough time marketing and get busy with unproductive tasks every day.  For every hour, I spend writing or producing content, I am going to spend two hours marketing.

I always try to give my readers value in every article that I write.  I just read this great blog by Coschedule, How to Promote Your Blog, it features 105 ways to promote your blog.  I am going to master a few every couple of weeks so that I can use every tool at my disposal.  And because their blog was so good, I’m going to look over their products and services.  I can’t afford them now but the future is always a second away.

They recommend you take a few strategies and apply them for a few weeks then add a few more strategies the next few weeks and build a marketing program incrementally.  It’s really good advice.  It gives me time to get the hang of every technique.  There are so many options to choose from; the article has 105 techniques.  I will start with the ones that I know and ones that have piqued my interest.

I am excited to learn Pinterest.  My mom uses it often so I’m hoping to see her and get some pointers.  It would be great to finally get back to using Instagram.  I wrote a blog about Instagram a couple of years ago call the nuts and bolts of Instagram The Nuts and Bolts of Instagram.  I enjoyed writing it and learning all the techniques.

Think I am also going to have to have a monthly budget for my business start with $40 dollars a month for Aweber and Hootsuite.  I think I’m going to dedicate my once a month job money to my business.  It would be great if I got a temp job now.  I am still trying to secure a temporary job to raise some cash.  It’s been difficult since I don’t have administrative assistant experience.  It’s like any other job.  There is a lot of competition out in the work world.  Funny no job seems worth having, entrepreneurship is the way to go.  I am on this path for now.

I also have an acquaintance named Steve Constable who wrote a book called the 5 Pillars of SEO available for $3 on Amazon.  I am going to ask if he has any pointers for blogging for good SEO or Search Engine Optimization.  I am getting really good advice from my mentor JohnnyFD but I could use some more insight.

I have been a social media marketer for a few companies, but I have never been given the opportunity to show my knowledge or skills.  I believe this is because of my sketchy work history due to my disability.  But here is my chance to at the very least prove it to myself.  I can do research, I can learn, I can apply, I can learn from my mistakes, I can adjust, I can improve and then I will succeed!

The book “Grit” by Angela Duckworth comes to mind.  She states that passion and perseverance are the keys to success and achievement over pure talent.  I was not given a lot of pure talent but I have a lot of passion.  The trick is that I cannot let enthusiasm die when I am tired or bored or are not seeing results.  Perseverance will be the struggle for me.

So, my goal today is to spend two hours of marketing for every hour of content I produce.  I will build up the skills as suggested by Coschedule a few techniques at a time then slowly use many techniques.  I know the results won’t come quickly, but they will build slowly over time.
